I’m very excited to invite you into the classroom! This has always been such a success, and I can’t wait to try it again! I’m hoping to have a parent, family member, or friend of each student visit our classroom and read aloud to the class on Thursday afternoons from 2:15 – 2:45 PM. The catch is you can’t tell your child when you will be coming to read – that is what makes you a Secret Reader!
Secret Readers will be responsible for bringing the books they will be sharing to our classroom. You do not have to read for the full 30 minutes, but that amount of time will be blocked off if you would like it. I suggest bringing approximately five to six books if you would like to read for the full 30 minutes – you might be surprised how quickly some books can be read, especially if you get a little nervous! Student favorites, books that go along with our curriculum, or books that coordinate with the seasons/months are suggested. Poems are fun too! If you have any questions about the books you are thinking of bringing, feel free to email me!
I will have the kids sit on the carpet with their eyes closed right before the Secret Reader arrives. The student whose Reader comes will be surprised when they discover who has come to read. This is why it is important that you be a Secret Reader – no telling or dropping hints to your child if you are coming to read. Of course, it is important that each student have one family member or friend participate as a Secret Reader.
