In the event of an absence, please send an email or a note upon your child’s return to school with the date(s) of and reason for the absence. Please refer to the parent handbook for the five reasons that are excused. If you know that your child will have an early dismissal, please let me know via a note or email. This will allow me to have your child ready for dismissal at that time. The office will not disrupt classroom instruction for early dismissals.
Parent Volunteers
There will be opportunities to volunteer during this school year. If you are interested, please complete an application in the main office for approval. Field trip chaperones will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. I will notify you of upcoming field trips as soon as possible.
Uniforms
Each child should arrive to school each day wearing navy blue pants, shorts, or skirts, and a white collared shirt. It can get chilly in the classroom, so I would suggest that each child bring a long-sleeved white collared shirt or a solid navy blue or solid white sweater or sweatshirt to class every day. These can also be left in their cubbies so they will always have one at school. Please have students pack an extra change of clothes to keep in their backpacks in case of an accident. The students may not wear flip-flop sandals.
On Gym days, the students are required to wear appropriate gym attire. Gym uniforms can be purchased on our school’s website. They must also wear gym shoes in order to participate in the gym activities, for the safety of your child and the maintenance of our facilities. Please be sure to label ALL items of clothing sent to school with your child’s name and room number (sweaters, jackets, gym uniform items, hats, scarves, gloves, etc)!
Birthday Celebrations
At South Loop, we love to celebrate with our students. For birthdays, we set aside a special time during the school day to share the student’s favorite book. They can bring that book to school that day and after reading it with the class, they can either choose to donate it to the class library where it will be displayed as a donated birthday book, or they can take it home. Treats, presents, and balloons are not allowed. If you wish to deliver birthday party invitations at school, everyone in the class must be included.
