Spelling:
I use the Words Their Way curriculum for spelling. This may be a new experience for you and your child to work with words. Students will be given the Primary Spelling Inventory during the first week of school, and from that data, I will be grouping students based on their needs.
Friday: Spelling Test! Get new words. Cut and sort the words. Spelling list of 10 words sent home. Monday: Buddy sort words Tuesday: Resort & write words Wednesday: Speed sort words. Thursday: Sort & glue words.
Students will also be building the words using various materials (magnets, wikki stix, white boards, etc.) during word work centers.
Spelling tic-tac-toe will be the spelling homework. This allows for students to choose how they practice their words at home. This will be part of the homework packet. Students will have the same spelling words for 2 weeks-- this allows them to have more time to master the words, both at school and at home.
